Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

Cloud with Silver Lining

Our Story

Our founder Vicky Morrell has always been passionate about helping others and those in need, evident from her previous roles as a Prison Officer and Head of Year in secondary education where she continually strived to encourage people to change their lives and improve their future.

In 2013 a colleague of Vicky's became terminally ill and whilst staff wanted to raise money towards helping him so did the offenders which they worked with. Vicky supported the prisoners and enabled this to happen, noting all the additional benefits which came with the offenders raising money and giving something back. She had provided individuals with pretty much nothing a sense of purpose, common goal and a sense of worth in what they were doing. It is these key things which continue throughout the ethos of ALSB.

Vicky has never faltered in her passion for charitable giving and encouraging others that they too have something they can give. As an organisation we have been witness to the amazing effect this  rehabilitation service has already achieved.

Firstly, in the amount of money raised (over £13k) for 15 several smaller local charities in great need of donations such as Leeds Children’s Charity, Cash for Kids, Yorkshire Teenage Cancer, Martin House Hospice and One in a Million to name a few.
Secondly the impact on the offenders and their families involved in the events we conducted. ALSB via it's successfully  piloted gift giving services is directly responsible to the maintenance of family ties and the testimonies received at such events where a man had been allowed to give his partner a mother's day present directly with the children speaks for itself.
Thirdly the social impact- Through the work of our CIO  to educate, raise awareness and support young people of the "consequences of crime" combining education and  lived experience to  challenge  the glorified perceptions of prison and criminality.

Finally, in its entirety ALSB is able to give each and every person involved a sense of pride in themselves for being involved in such a worthy cause - something many of its clients have not experienced before. Fundamentally all the people engaged are good people who have may be lost their way and this is allowing them to be involved in something positive whilst also helping others.
